A client of mine has just picked up his new, new shape S66 AMG. Are these available in the UK as he apparently imported it from germany, only I've never seen one before thumbup

Twin turbo V12, so it'll be quite quick then....

It's an S65 not an S66. They are incredibly rapid. thumbup

Yes they are available in the UK, although with the £50k price premium over the already quick S55 they tend not to sell very many.

No, certain it was an S66. The S65 was the old shape S class, and this one is the new body with the flared arches.

Looked stunning, and sounds like it is a rare beastie indeed.

Well.... now you come to mention it...., you may have a point....., the S65 AMG is the current shape UK car....... I'm back with the same client tomorrow so may take a another look and take a photo if it's some kind of mystery import. Don't hold your breath though

Trust me, its an S65, we had one in our showroom for a while, it was awesome, ours listed up to £156600 with all the bells and whistles and was quite extraordinarily fast for a big limo. Ours had 20" AMG wheels which set it off well. Its space is now filled with a blue SLR cloud9

We're wedging that engine in so many things that I honestly wouldn't be surprised by an A63 AMG on the horizon!

Imagine the wheelspin!

From memory the S63 isn't twin turbo (OP mentioned V12 twin turbo)

(Edited, oh hang on I mentioned the S55 when it should have been compairing against the S63)

The S63 is the normally aspirated V8 that AMG have produced (around 514BHP IIRC), the S65 is a 6 litre V12 biturbo (614BHP from memory)

Interestingly when EVO tested the New, S65 it gave 0-150 in 24 secs.
The old S600 BiTubo,[not the S65 ] did 0-150 im 24 secs!!!!!!!!!!
Gone backwards in performance I think.

S73 (give them a couple of years and a few unsold Zondas to rip to bits)

Just to clear up things up with models and model numbers

The previous (W220) S-Class had a special edition in the form of the S63 AMG. This was a pre-facelift S-Class with a naturally aspirated 6.3 V12 based on the S600's 6.0 V12.
There was also the naturally aspirated 5.5 V8 S55 AMG

Post facelift, the W220 S600 was a 5.5 V12 bi-turbo. Thee S55 gained the near 500bhp 5.5 supercharged V8. And the original S65 AMG was released. This was 6.0 V12 bi-turbo based on the new S600 engine- but it was thoroughly reworked. This produced 612bhp and something like 700+lb/ft of torque.

When the new (W221) S-Class was released, the AMG version was the S65 AMG. The engine was identical to that as in the previous S65.

This W221 S63 AMG uses Mercedes new naturally aspirated 6.3 V8 and produces over 500bhp.

As mentioned earlier, an S66 does not exist.

Hope this helps clear up the matter of the badging

Darren
