Hello all

I have come across a Mercedes parts manual for my 500E, I am after a few odds and sods for the car and have been looking through it.

One thing which confused me was this......

Now, I understand that 17 is the number for the assembly but what does Range of Delivery mean?

This one has most of the Merc range of cars and all the part numbers, diagrams etc, it might prove useful.

'Range of delivery' just means you get all the bits the line points to, so you get the shocker and all the fittings for it too.

There are two different shocks on there too according to the age of the vehicle, look at the footnotes on the bottom of the page.

It would also seem that the parts listed there are for the Russian market only, those shockers haven't been sold in Blighty in the past 12 months at least. I assume our Russian cousins prefer a slightly higher ground clearance. I know the US cars are set up with different shocks and springs than ours for a little more loose ride.

Thanks for that, just what I needed to know.

I'm pretty sure the Russian ones were the same spec as the US cars which were raised on higher spring cups.

Man, they think of everything those Germans.

I noticed recently that there are different spec shock absorbers for a 190E depending on whether it is fitted with a sunroof or not...

Good attention to detail but, if you put a toddler in the car the weight probably upsets all that hard engineering work!!

You want to try selling springs on a daily basis !

I have to go through every sales option to get the right spring. radios, big batterys, sunroofs, gun turrets - they all add to the weight - and of course it makes a difference how high up on the car these parts are. Get the wrong spring and it'd look like the cars had a stroke down one side.

Of course the driver could be Twiggy or John Prescott, but that doesn't come into the equation !

It makes me think that aftermarket springs/dampers (even Bilstein and so on) aren't going to be so well adapted to the vehicle? But I've never had any experience so I don't know..
