mercedes c 200 espirit T reg

hi my dad went to start his car this morning but he couldnt get in because the locks wouldnt open via the remote, he tried with the spare and it still didnt open so its definitely not the remotes at fault. what could be wrong?

my dad wasnt aware that the car could be opened with the key.

Flat battery? Did the interior light come on when you unlocked with the key? Would the headlights switch on?

Press the buttons on the remote, does the red bit next to the blade light up, if not it's time for some new batterys.

If a little red LED does light up on the key, then the key is fine - the keys are just out of synch with the car. Have a play holding the key up to the receiver in the rear view mirror if this is the case, it may work after a few goes, just be ready for the car alarm to scare your pants off tho' !

My old mans C200 did the same...being an engineer all of his life he started messing about with all sorts of things. Bear it in mind he's 70, and knows everything there is to know about mechanical things he couldn't find the problem.

I changed the battery for him, it worked. I haven't let him live it down yet.
