Just bought a 53 plate SL55 AMG, I know there is a lot of power but it feel like your driving on ice, any power seems to get the rear spinnig. My question is, the tyres are 19" BF Goodrich they are new but I wonder if they are the correct tyres, it seems most run Bridgestones.
Anyone have any ideas.
Thanks
Vince

Are those the original (I though only 18 diameter) or AMG or Brabus?

I run 19" Brabus wheels with Bridgestone tyres (RE050) and traction is excellent.

the regular amgs have p zero's on them. when id got mine they were decent enough tred but as the car sat doin nothing for ages they gripped like shit. on a side point does yours have the supercharger squeal just as you put your foot down...or have they not resolved the problem yet?

I'd say BF Goodrich are your problem, I had them fitted to a TVR once and they were bloody awfull, hard as nails which meant bugger all grip, lasted an incredible length of time wear wise though

Loose the BF tyres.

Chances are they fitted those are there are CHEAP.

Get some decent rubber.

Not sure if it's the same as with SLKs but they have a special "MO" (mercedes only) tyre for the rear- It is a softer compound.

Check your handbook to confirm.

The problem hasn't been resolved yet, to my knowledge. Get some "stop squeal" and it's a 5 minute fix...

There is a solution, fairly well documented. Get some "stop squeal" liquid (graphite fillaments suspended in alcohol) and inject a few drops between the supercharger clutch plates. Takes 5 minutes, works a treat and lasts for about 6 months.

I have found two things that reduce the grip of my Mich' Pilot Sports,
Tred depth below 4mm.
Temp below 8 degrees C.

Mark.

Edited to say, make that three things; also, when they are brand new.yikes
