New 4 seats in Cabriolet
Discussion
The E220 is an economical and reliable engine. 2.2 16v producing about 150bhp and the same in torque.
However the engine is quite rough sounding and is pretty weedy for the E220 Cabs bulk.
Your better off plumbing for the E320 if you can. There's little difference in price to buy between the E220 and E320. The E320 is obviously more heavy on fuel.
Look out for oil leaks - could mean a cylinder head gasket. Also be aware of a clunky gearbox - could mean a replacement.
Also, a full service history is essential!
I'm part of an another website for E-Class Coupes and Cabs...there are forums on there highlighting problems, plus general info on the coupes and cabs LINK HERE

What mpg should I expect from E320 Cab and is the engine size the only difference between E320 & E220.
Thanks

I don't know myself, but parkers.co.uk quotes the E220 as 30MPG and the E320 as 23-24MPG.
Engine size is the only difference between the two models. They both came with the same options lists, so you will find varying spec with both models on the second hand market. The E220s tend to be lower specced than the E320s, when looking on the second hand market, however. A Sportline suspension optioned example maybe worth looking for as these will give better handling. I used to own an E Class saloon with Sportline and I've driven one without - the grip and roll is noticably improved!
One thing to bear in mind with these models is that they were made in the days when you bought a Mercedes and you got a car with an engine - and that was it! Pretty much all Cabrios came with electric windows and alloys, and leather was usually specified. However air-con, climate control, heated front seats, electric front seats and the Sportline package where options not always specified.
Spec doesn't usually affect price, its usually mileage with these.

As others have said, the 320 has a smoother & better engine than the 220. Also 320s tend to have a higher spec
With W124s, and particularly with Cabrios, spec and history is everything. You're paying a premium for a Cabrio so make sure it has an appropriate spec - leather and aircon are a must, electric seats with memory are nice, 320 engine and a 5-speed auto if at all possible
These cars are very collectible now so one carefully purchased & maintained will not depreciate. Can't say that about a Boxter
