Just picked it up yesterday to replace my 4.8is and join the rest of my four-wheeled toys. Here's a few pics for now, driving impressions later..

Aha, you got one in the end. Nice one. thumbup

Look forward to hearing how you get on with it.

BTW, merc do a great moulded plastic cover thingy for the boot. Very useful if you occasionally carry dirty tyres, dead pheasants, muddy wellys etc.

I realise this sounds impossible but it feels as quick as an M5. The way it lunges towards the horizon is something of a party trick no matter how jaded you might be about fast cars. If you floor it from rest it gives you that 'light-headed' feel as the blood rushes away from your head.. Silly, really silly.

It attracts a LOT of attention when driven that quickly, perhaps because it defies your expectations for something so large. It's actually only a few hundred kilos heavier than an E63 Estate, so naturally they go about as quickly as each other.

And get this, the worst I saw was 14.5mpg and when I toodled back (still at 80mph+ speeds) I averaged 19.3mpg!

p.s. I bought it without a test drive, which is a first for me, but I trusted a good friend of mine who writes for EVO (Richard Meaden) so I knew I couldn't go too far wrong. Thus far it's a hoot!

yikes I've never gotten more than 12 out of the various Supercharged Rangies and Rangie sports i've ever driven.

So quick AND economical. The lentalists can stick that in their anti 4x4 pipes and smoke it.

Personally I don't really like how it looks on the outside (did you have to choose black!! It's like something from mad max! hehe) but have to love that engine. The interior looks rather sporty too - for a Merc let alone an off road one.

I'm not much of an ML fan but this really does look the dogs boll*ks, I have to say. I'm more of a Range Rover fan but something I do like about the ML is how it lifts from the front when taking off. I remember my cousins doing this but he had 2 ML320 CDI's so this must be like a plane taking off.

YUMMY! Theres a couple of Silver ML63s in Norwich, but they look far better in Black!

A very nice car, and performance you wouldn't except from a 2 tonne+ 4x4!

Enjoy it! driving

Amusing to come across a Mitsubishi EVO FQ320 today and for him to discover that the ML63 was the quicker car. The Merc just pulled away despite being 4 up plus luggage. He was a good sport though and gave me the thumbs up at the end of the dual carriageway.

I posted a vid of me trying to film the way the dash lights up when near the rev limiter. It gives some idea of how it sounds and accelerates. I must do some proper videos when I have more time.

I half regret posting that vid on Youtube, it seems the typical person replying on there is a real 'tool'. One of them even concluded that I must be chav... doh!

anyway, here are some of the pictures again.

Awesome looking car. I must admit the previous model was a bit of a disappointment in every way IMO, but every time I see one of the new ones I do that involuntary stop and gaze thing that normally occurs when I spot a supercar. It's such a well styled car - far better than the new X5.

Steve you shouldn't regret it, at the end of the day they are all blatently jealous. That is one truely magnificant car! I got to watching the promo vids for it after watching your shift light video. It really does sound like a bloody nascar! Awesome!

Thanks for sharing the photos, the car looks brilliant!
