That is a gorgeous car!

Is that Impala Brown? Which engine has it got?

308,000 miles, and she appears to have worn well! Still looks better than some new cars with a fraction of that mileage!

I wish you many happy miles of motoring ahead of you!

Not sure what colour, it's not impala beige, I had a 190 in that colour...scratchchin It's a bit greyer than that. Marvellous condition and been to a merc dealer every six months...3 service books, bit of a time warp car. It's only a 3.0 so not too bad to smoke about in, trouble is, it doesn't smoke. irked

Picking it up on thursday, matey is putting a new mot on it for me.

All for a few groats. I love these old mercs.

That colour looks about right Bodo.
308k, my highest so far, I'm always up for a bit of high mileage on a car, and if the alfa 164 I owned is anything to go by, it's mechanical sympathy that keeps 'em going.

The Alfa managed 262k with nothing going wrong, routine servicing, and on it's original engine an clutch (new clutch at 262k) I sold it to a collegue who has upped the miles to just over 274k, and it's still going strong with nothing falling off or going wrong.

So I reckon if an alfa can do it, there must be some life left in this old merc.

Besides, it only cost me £600 , and that's with a 12 month mot and a few months tax, so if it all goes horribly pear shaped, I'll whip the seats out and get a nice frame welded on to use it as an office chair. hehe

mmmmm lovely, was that on Ebay

I've been tempted by another one of these as a cruiser, quite economical if you go gently too. 300k nah thats nothing for one of them, just run in sir

Indeed, an ebay beauty

Just conversed with the owner, he's having it serviced and is happy for me to collect it from his private parking next to Tower Bridge yikes "Off with his head sir"

Hopefully he's telling the truth, rather than from under a tower block off elephant and castle hehe

Well done old chap.

You just need to buy a rough pub, an alsation and a fur coat for the Mrs and you'll really look the part.

Hi Fellas,
Thanks for the advice / forums and stuff. thumbup

Not back from london yet, the owner is going to meet me at reading train station on Sunday. This signifies a couple of good things to me....

1. He reckons it will at least get to Reading from Central London
2. There should be petrol in it, hopefully to get me home - that's a bonus in itself.

I'm really looking forward to getting hold of this politically incorrect lump....the lads in work have already started calling me 'pimpdaddy mike' or 'bismarck man' hehe

I'll keep ya posted....

Well, supershed now safely back home. Made it home without so much as a moan. The drive is marvellous, no clonks, squeaks, anything really, it's all very solid. Nice upgraded infinity hi fi as well.

More service history than I can shake a hairy stick at, with some eye watering figures being spent, quite recently too, £6500 in the last few years, new gearbox, discs and pads all round, new pirelli's, good general servicing evident (along with 2 cd roms with previous history).

The only thing that lets it down is the bodywork, the offside rear chrome has gone through making it look a bit ratty, and some rust over the arches which hasn't come through yet.

Anyone know if the chrome inserts are available???

Top motor though, rather pleased with this old thing, but as much as I looked, I couldn't find an alsation in the boot or back seat

Mike,

Glad to hear its ok - no shooters hidden in the spare wheel well then ?

Both rust issues are fairly common on these

MBOC recommend this chap, he is a Merc breaker in Southampton who can send stuff nationwide.

Mercman - 023 8078 4444 - www.mercman.net

If not try Mervyn Wright at Mercedes Benz of Poole.01202 666330

www.mercedes-benzofpoole.co.uk/cla

He is a classic parts specialist and will be able to confirm if still available new, and part number.

Regards

Nigel

hehe No shooters as far as I'm aware however I did lift the cover up to have a look if it has a spare and I did notice lots of plastic sheeting and a large screwdriver.yikes At least it wasn't an axe. nuts

I'll give those chaps a ring re the chrome, it's a shame to leave it looking like that as the rest is ok.
