Hi Guys,

I'm going to buy a used SL, and wondered what your views were on V12 biturbo vs. AMG 55?

How do they stack up in pace, handling?

Any owners out there been through the same decision process?

Cheers!

The 55 sounds nicer. Performance figures are more or less identical. Handling wise I'd imagine the 600 would be the cruiser and the 55 a bit more focused.

I'd have the 55. Servicing 4 fewer cylinders should be cheaper as well.

TBH I would get the 65AMG. But im always one for top-of-the-line models.

Well nearly, I had a 55 before the 600. If you like the V8 rumble the 55 is for you, it also has a more sporty gearbox. The 600 is quicker in standard form also is a lot quieter and if you want to upgrade your power the 600 is the way to go[althougth the gearbox must be done at the same time].The 600 comes with a lot more spec as standard, but no surprise all the essential bits are extra ie,pan roof, pdc, bose, keyless go etc, these being necessary for an easy sale.If you have any specific questions please ask.

Edited to, say servicing costs same. 55 may manage 25 mpg 600 21 mpg
