leasing a mercedes
Discussion
a friend has recently recommended leasing a car for 2 years instead of buying outright to protect the downside of depreciation. good idea it seems. a company called morgan highfield and land have been recommended to me and the quote seems very fair.. my qestion is... has anybody here had any dealing with them at all for my peace of mind. i'm looking at a cls for 2 years. thanks, kagey
Would be interested in how the numbers come out. Having been meaning to check that out. As someone who chgs their car every yr or so, my depn cost is 15-20k pa(incl. my wife's car, tho she's sensible and keeps hers for 2-4yrs). Have not considered leasing, because it seemed to me that the cost musyt = depn plus financing plus their profit. On the baiss that i dont borrow to buy my cars, i assumed the only benefit could be if they can but the car cheaper in the first place (on the bais of bulk order etc ).

Never dealt with that company but I'm aware that they've been around for a few years. Not sure if I'm missing anything but they don't do much - they send you a car and you send them a cheque every month.
As EN suggests, take a look through an MB dealer - there are all sorts of deals and MB tneds not to shout about them in order to try to protect the cars residuals. I gather that the leasing companies can get the same deals too though.
Whether it's better to lease/PCP etc than buy is a bit of a gamble, but there are people on the MB forums with E Classes who reckon they would have been better off using lease/PCP than buying. There is a lack of flexibility though - so the deals can be expensive to get out of if your circumstances change. Lease Purchase is supposed to be a bit more flexible, although I don't fully understand the difference.

I just recently leased my wife's Mercedes, thru mercedes finance in the end. I arranged a test drive at the local dealers and took with me a few quotes from the web. Inevitabley I ended up in front of the finance woman, gave her the pieces of paper and told her that if she could match it I would sign there and then.
After a bit of negotiating I ended up with a higher spec car costing me about £5pm more and in all honesty felt more comfortable using the dealer for the whole transaction rather than the web, Excellent allround service and would recommend thoroughly.
Mercedes Insurance thats a different kettle of fish tho !

Lease Purchase is a Hire Purchase facility that uses a Lease payment profile ( payments in advance as opposed to % deposit etc ).
Issues like title, tax treatment, ownership, settlement are identical to Hire Purchase.
Leasing (Finance or Operating) is a completely different kettle of fish, in simple terms a tax based rental agreement in which ownership remains with the provider (Lessor).
Do try the Manufacturers own finance company, sometimes they have very cheap deals to get cars on the road, but don't promote them widely.
A colleague and I have leased a few c£30k vehicles for literally peanuts direct from the Mnaufacturers as they wanted to promote the vehicles or get them on the road.
Best one was a one month old Espace, list £27K, leased for two years at £135+vat per month - all we had to do was insure and fuel it.
This was cheap motoring.

To get a good quote try www.contracthireandleasing.com
Once you have got a quote print it out and get your local Merc dealer to match it, works every time for me...
CLS 320CDi for 2 years should be about £500 plus vat per month contract hire.
