My wifes E270CDI has developed a terrible "rotten eggs" pong when you turn on teh heater. Any ideas of the possible cause?

It's fungus in your ducts.

Happens with air con because there is sometimes a damp residue left in the heater ducts. You can either take it to the dealer and they'll spray some stuff in the ducts which kills the bacteria or you can do the following:

1. warm the engine
2. turn the heaters and blower on full to all areas (screen, footwell, face vents) for 10 minutes, then,
3. turn the a/c on and set the temp to coldest and blower to highest and run for 10 minutes.

Halfords sell 'Air conditioning Cleaner' in an aerosol, which I beleive sterilises the ducts.

Press the nozzle and leave it squirting like an air freshener in the centre of the interior with the engine and a/c on and all windows and doors closed (and you outside) for 10 minutes or so......

I've Used it and it works well!
