Mercedes SLK gets special edition
Anniversary model includes fancy paint
Mercedes-Benz is introducing a special version of the SLK-Class, dubbed Edition 10, to mark ten years of the model.
The Edition 10 is the same as the showcar with which Merc marked the model's anniversary at the Paris Motor Show, and it's available from January 2007. This special model is distinguished by a unique paint finish and choice of interior materials.
A new matt grey metallic paint finish -- dubbed incomprehensibly "allanite grey Magno" -- sees Mercedes designers illustrating a trend for future colour schemes, said the company's release. The finish is available for a limited edition of 350 vehicles and is available as an option in addition to obsidian black metallic and iridium silver metallic. The standard finish for the special model is black.
Other highlights include light-alloy wheels painted in dark-grey, high-gloss "chrome-shadow", with black/silver emblems bearing the Mercedes star. These ten-spoke designer wheels are shod with wide-base tyres in size 225/45 R 17 (front) and 245/40 R 17 (rear). Dark-tinted rear lights and engraved insignia bear the lettering "EditI0n" on the wings.
Inside, the seats, centre console armrest and gearshift lever are covered in black leather, with both seat backrests bearing the "EditI0n" logo. The centre panels of the seat cushions and backrests feature a silver-coloured under layer "which discreetly yet strikingly brings the perforated leather to the fore".
There's silver-threaded topstitching on the SLK’s sports seats too, while the liner of the vario-roof and the inner surrounds of the rear window are in black. In addition to leather upholstery and 17-inch light-alloy wheels, standard equipment includes heated seats and velour floor mats with black edging and an embroidered "EditI0n" logo.
Another special feature is the innovative, matt-painted metallic mesh on the area above the glove compartment, plus two black trim strips for the driver’s side. The speedometer and rev counter feature red scales, aimed at emphasising the SLK's sporty character.
The special "Edition 10" model is available as an SLK 200 KOMPRESSOR with 163bhp, an SLK 280 with the 231bhp six-cylinder engine or as an SLK 350 with 272bhp.
Prices (UK prices may not be identical slightly due to tax differences)
- SLK 200 KOMPRESSOR "Edition 10": € 37,734.90 (£25,410)
- SLK 280 "Edition 10": € 42,911.40 (£28,895)
- SLK 350 "Edition 10": € 47,671.40 (£32,100)
The comfort and convenience systems developed specifically for the SLK-Class are also available for the special anniversary model on request. These include the absolutely unique neck-level heating system Airscarf, Thermotronic automatic climate control or the Comand system with Europe-wide navigation. The SLK includes a steel vario-roof -- a technology that others have emulated.
Mercedes-Benz has produced around 465,000 SLK models since 1996.
FestivAli out.
I agree, we looked at one for the other half to run as her daily driver and our weekend toy/holiday tourer. Persuaded her that the 280 would be a good comprimise and it was available with the 7-speed autobox which is a nice box with very smooth changes and suits the tourer mode. Interestingly the dealers never have manual boxes available and apparently manuals do not sll on well. It drives fine, and has reasonable security and finish, much better than any other folding hard-top.
However, we've decided a Discovery 3 will be more practical for carrying the dogs!
I'll just translate that from "cardealerspeak"
We don't have a manual in stock so I'm going to sell you an auto by telling you a stack of lies about the manual.
To be fair to us dealers the manuals don't sell well at all compared to the automatics, thats not to say they're not good, only last month I sold an SLK200 manual on an 04/54 which drove lovely to say it had the smallest engine in the range. I have just had a customer order a new SLK350 through me who has specified manual, there wasn't a single manual of any variety on UK dealer stock.

This is the type of thing that infuriates me..... Mercedes finally make a SPORTS roadster with an excellent manual 'box and all their hard work is confounded by lazy sales speak spouting the well worn record of how only automatic Mercedes sell!!
Glad I ignored this and actively sought out a manual (as road tests from respected sources advised).
This car deserves better than this type of lazy stereotypical sales bulls**t!!
