This is a 190E 2.5-16 Evolution I. Very rare and one of ~500 made. Differences are many, stretching to a short stroke engine (but same 2.5 displacement), aerodynamics, full hydraulic suspension, and a crazy price tag when new, around £50k+ I think.

In the UK one of these is worth £10,000-£25,000 depending on mileage/condition. Most of them are garage queens in pukka condition.

This chap from Croatia came across this - in some kind of car graveyard - by pure chance. He recognized it instantly, bought it and is getting it up and running.

That rear spoiler alone costs well over £1,000 from a dealer. Likewise the front bumper (which is broken eek). And some fool has put a nasty grille on so it looks like a Merc from a chav estate!

Good find !

The spoilers are £1251.41 + VAT, but they do come painted !

Can't find a price for his front bumper, but he'll be relieved to know his alloy centre caps are only £2.49.

Good to see the 'plate on the Croatian transporter has been blanked, bet folk are itching to ring that !!

Good to see one of these monsters will be back on the road soon.

Incidently, the digital stopwatch in the dash on these (and lesser sporty 190's) break for fun and these are £244 plus the dreaded.

Holy moly! Good stuff sneijder - do you work in a Merc dealer?!

My digital stopwatch worked when I got the car, but now some of the bars don't work properly (it's still counting though). Wonder if there's a way I can fix it..

By the way, can you recommend a brake upgrade for my 2.5-16 (they come with brakes from the 300E). Need better discs and pads for an Autocar track day next month...

Oh bloody hell Pento....I just get the cossie thing outa my head (sold the 190) and then you go and post a pic of an Evo looking so right (well grille ignored). I mean look at the way that baby sits, just like a DTM racer, flat, and those arches...wheres the bloody classified section, I'm getting me one of those babies......

The car in the original post is indeed a fantastic find!

As well as that nasty grill, why would you put replica 17" AMGs on it, seeing as it's such a special car!? yikes

That second car does look tasty! Wish I could buy it! hehe

I've only seen one of these cars in the metal. My Mercedes Specialist in Norfolk services (what appears to be) a UK Evo 1 - It has the orange side repeaters and an MPH speedo. Whats more its only got 30,000 miles on the clock! A beautiful car!

Darren

ETA: How many Evolution Is came to the UK? I heard 6 Evo IIs came here.

I think it's got some 9x,000 miles on, so it's not too expensive or a garage queen.

More pics because you love it:

Strange how a car that once was so outrageous now looks quite weak sporting only 235bhp.

Yeh agree...the looks make you think its 300+ bhp....I think ultimately that would dissapoint me. If I spent £25K on an evo 2 and it was only a fraction quicker than a standard 2.5-16v (and be blown away by the new Golf GTI 2.0T) I would be gutted.....then again I don't see many unhappy E30 M3 owners, and they take 6.9 to 60....so maybe I could just revel in that chassis on a track-day.....yes, thats it I've talked myself back in to it......urm, just need to find the money now....
