Wanted - customers to visit Mercedes World Brooklands
Discussion
It appears my friends at Brooklands are feeling lonely....they opened the doors to customers yesterday and are still waiting....
Ok so the official opening is not until next week, but still.
There are 16 salesman stuck upstairs in an office with 34 meeter greeters waiting downstairs to say hello. Only then can they ask if you want to see a salesman, and if you say yes, ping! they release one onto the floor....how very quaint.
I give it 6 months and it will be back to normal....the place is very special though. You got to see it to believe the size. Oh and the fast road circuit.....hmmm.

First day of the official opening today, thought I would stay clear as the world and his wife would be there.
Spoke to a friend at 4.00pm and was told that there was plenty of room in the car park so shot over.
Quite a few people milling around but NOT busy, spoke to one of the PR standing around looking bored, was told that they had about 2,800 visitors today up to 5.00pm
Interesting to look around but nothing that I have not seen before, maybe go again in the week to take their cars around the track, providing I can also take mine as well to get a comparison.

What is the deal with this place then? I've never heard of it - is it just a big, fancy showroom?
Can you take demo cars round the track?!

PENTO! Come on, get your head out from under that bonnet son. This is the Mecca for all MB loyalists. I kid you not, it is Disneyland meets Mercedes. They have a museum, cinema, hotel, restaurant, a showroom containing almost every model and engine; they registered over 100 demos to be used on the off rad course and fast road track (you have to pay a small fee for these though). The showroom has 34 meeter greeters to try and cover it!!!
The grounds are 150 acres or so....there are glass lifts and an escalator that covers 3 levels, the place is HUGE. And the bonus, they only call down a salesman if you need one!

Tony,
I recall hearing about this new MB facility whilst visiting the MB stand at the London motor show earlier in the year, and then promptly forgot about it.
So what's the deal.. do you just turn up, or should you make an appointment?? Do you drive your own car, or/and the ones they offer? In which case, how does insurance work etc etc.. forgive the questions, as you may not know the answers...
Wifey drives a lovely SLK just now, and is interested in the SL (maybe?).. I am a bit of a fan of the AMG models, so a visit would be something that would interest us both..
Cheers,
John
Heh... I see they've managed to sneak some S-class drifting videos into the corporate web site!

Johnnyboy - yep you just turn up. They are effectively a large dealership and have just about every model on site, you test their cars on their own track. They are charging a small fee - dont know the details, but its all insured. I would ring as they have an age policy on performance car insurance normally.
Probably best to ring them and arrange it all. Sounds like a good day out anyway.....

Went down there today.
Bloody nora it is an impressive place. Floor 3 was a bit of a favorite... expecially the CLS 63AMG & S 65AMG. The CL600 was also one of, if not the the most impressive cars there (SLR discounted based ont eh fact it is roped off )
So how good is this "uber showroom"? Good enough that I will be going back (Prehaps this year) to try out the test tracks, prehaps a CLS AMg round the skid pan?
Highly recomended and I dont even own a Merc.

You can also nip next door and have a nosey round "DeltaGolf" at the Brooklands Museum & then get some bearded nutter to take you up on the banking at speed in an MGB based retro kit car... in the wet

Went yesterday - it was very good.
If you do go, take your driving licence as if you decide you want to pay to drive the AMG's or others and they have space in the schedule you will need it.
