SL55 AMG vs CLS55 AMG
Discussion
Thanks for useful info.....What I want out of them, is to drive them.
They both weigh about the same so it's not as if we're talking about the SL being some lightweight sportscar. The fact that they are two seater/four seater is irrelevant to me (other than the SL being a more compact size) and the handling of the CLS has been well praised.
If any owners wish to chip in with some info, that would be of interest. Thanks.

SL for me, less depreciation, hood down you really enjoy the sound, for ease of sale you need keyless go,pan roof, pdc, bose.
Mark.
CLS is the heart purchase - it wont hold its value like the SL, although the starting price may help if you find a good deal on the CLS used. It is far prettier and rare due to its newness. The market place does not like them as much as the SL - hence you buy the SL with your head. Less depreciation.
Personally the SL sounds best, has open top ability (but that roof creaks and the build is not what it should be). The CLS is more refined, nearly as loud and has 2 extra seats and turns more heads these days.
Neither car actually handles like a true sports car ( I sold them for years) so there is little to chose. They are chalk and cheese in looks and ability and no one is going to make your mind up for you.
Personally I think you should buy a 2nd hand Porsche off of me instead..but then thats just selfish!

Thanks for the offer but I've got a Porsche already, Mk2 GT3, and I really love it but there are times when I'd rather be in car that is a little less harsh as I'm getting old and lazy. The flipside is there will be many times when I really miss the GT3. Difficult decision to sell really.
Anyway, thanks for suggestions. Part of me thinks should wait for a suitable SL65 (but not over £75K) and the photo above does not help.
Why do Merc drivers spec cars so badly? Difficult to find one without cheap/naff silver console and grey seats. The less said about the popular beige, the better! I'm looking for piano trim and black seats in any of choices.

Surely the answer is that they are quite different cars. I don't think you can compare a 4 door 4 seat saloon (only nominally a coupe) with a 2 seat sports/GT. It all depends what you want out of the car.

Very true Quentinl.
It's like comparing goldfish and chewing gum.
