Hi, I've got a 1998 E55 AMG (w210) I’ve just been told by the mail dealer that one of my pre-cats is knackered and the grand price to replace this is 2k!!!! Obviously this is a lot of money. Does any know where I could source a new/refurbed part from or whether I could just get a bypass pipe?

Many thanks

i've had the same thing recently with my 355. Ferrari wanted about £1700 per side plus fitting etc.
Try Eurocar parts who should be able to supply them at a fraction of the cost.

Try

www.benzworld.org/forums/w210-e50-e55-amg/

or these well known fabricaters who can fabricate anything. Ford or otherwise.

www.fusionfabrication.fsnet.co.uk/index.htm

good luck.

If you get a replacement cat, make sure you idle the engine for long enough for the exhaust to heat up (20 minutes or so), so that the cat bonds with the walls of the exhaust. Otherwise, if you drive straight off you risk having the thing rattling around after only a few hundred miles. Drive carefully as well.
