Hi all. Hope you don't mind me invading your forum (I usually reside over in the TVR bit) but my better half has an intermittent problem with her CLK and I was hoping you guy's may be able to help.

As the title of the post states there is an intermittent problem with mainly the temp gauge (although this has started occuring on the clock). Basically the temp display often has piece's of the figures missing therefore making the display unreadable. This mostly happens when the car is warm, not sure if there's any relationship there or not?

She spoke to Merc aid who said it is likely a new dash would be required (I assume they mean instrument cluster) at a cost of £500 + vat and we estimated the labour to be pretty much the same again.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? is the only way to rectify the problem? is there anything we should try ourselves first before spending out lots of money?

Thanks in advance

dont know about the clk, but on the w210 e class the lcd display can fail after prolongued exposure to direct sunlight. The remedy is replacement.

Maybe things are different for the clk.

hi listercat

An instrument cluster repair is normally not a dash out job. Say two hours to get the instrument cluster out and back in. Say 30-60 mins for the repair.

Benz charge about £70 ph plus VAT

Say three hours work at a nightmare £100.

Still cheaper than the stealership.

At a guess no more than £200 maybe closer to £100-£150

btw, whats the link for the speedo repair people? Tried your link, but no joy & need to know who to contact when my LCD's blow.

thanks

Benzo, apologies, I posted their e-mail address rather than web address. Please find below,

www.speedofixer.co.uk/mercedes_instrument_cluster_repairs.htm

FYI, received an e-mail from them. For them to repair both temp and clock displays on site (to come from South Mimms (North on M25) to Leigh-on-Sea) they have quoted £160 all-in. Sound good to me.
