Running a W202 200 Sport as daily hack but it seems to have developed a stalling issue when sitting idle at traffic lights or in traffic.

Thinking its got something to do with the air flow meter/sensor - anyone help?
Looking for a cheap replacement otherwise as i've been quoted £250 just for the part!

If you look down the air mass sensor body, you can see a little sensor hanging down. This gets coated in crap from the air around it, and as it gets a bit hot in there, the crap bakes on, rendering it useless.

The usual Merc forums have ideas on cleaning it off, spraying it with oven cleaner or petrol being the two faves, if that doesn't work then it's time for a new one I'm afraid. I've heard a few sob stories about people buying shoddy ones from ebay to save a couple of pounds, so be warned !

I don't suppose you have a picture of the part? I thought it was the tubing from the air box but I could be mistaken - i've already tried spraying carb cleaner through it?

I can't find a picture of it to post.

If you pop the bonnet, there's a flattish air pipe running across the back of the engine bay eventually going to a throttle valve. Follow that pipe to the drivers wing side and you'll see a hard plastic part in that airline, about 4 inches long, held in with two jubilee clips. That's the part, It's easy to get off and inspect.

if it's the part i'm thinking of, i tried to get the darned thing off and it wouldn't budge because it's not flexible at all! might have to try again now me thinks!

just to update, i got the item in question out of the pipe work and disconnected the air box too. silly thing had leaves and loads of dust inside which must have been the problem! also the air filter was a mess so i changed that too.
drove about 100 miles after doing that and all was fine. let's hope it stays that way! fingers crossed!

cheers too all and especially Sne!
