I was just out at lunch and noticed a BMW mini with a NOS sticker on the bonnet. Got me thinking, might that be a good idea?
The Cosworth engine is so nice, revs very high and the car so poised, it just lacks the grunt of a bigger engine or a turbo.....would a nos kit would be perfect addition for that Q car appeal?

ps
Sure it's been done before, I've been wondering for ages whether a supercharger or turbo would be the simplest way of boosting speed on my 2.3 16 Cosworth, not that I'm really serious.

The engine is pretty strong and could probably take it.. but it would be a pretty mean thing to do! I think to actually do it properly without risking killing the engine/yourself requires a bit of effort (please don't kill your 2.3-16!).

I know the engine does not make that much power (relatively) in standard form, but it is actually not all that different from the racing engine, because of course it was built first as a racing engine - never intended for road use - then 'detuned' to Mercedes' specified power for road use. Read the Mercedes 190 wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes for an explanation of how that came about.
Therefore it has much potential.

So if you're vaguely serious you could look at liberating some of that power again. Many are looking at this on www.mercedes190.co.uk where I am admin. Removing the KE-jetronic and installing a modern management system (Omex or other) seems to be a way to use all those nice race-spec mechanical bits in the way that they were designed for, supposedly liberating 35-40bhp on a 2.5, without any other tuning work/parts whatsoever. That's keeping it N/A.

Alternatively, they take to boost (turbo/supercharger) very well, apparently flowing well and therefore making lots of extra power with only low boost levels.

No personal experience, just what the tuning guys say. Might be a laugh, and cheaper than a new car if you're happy with it. And cooler than a newer big heavy auto Merc?
