My father has just bought an 02 Smart Fortwo Passion.

When locking and unlocking a weird squealing noise comes from the drivers side rear as if the mechanism is in dire need of oil! Anyone else come across this?

Also. How do i go about getting a PIN code for the stereo? Do I have to contact the place it was orginally bought and what info do I ned to have ready for them?

Many thanks

Rick

Hi there,

It sounds like the central locking solenoid may need greasing/oiling, that should help fix the issue. As for the radio code, it is usually in the service manual pack, but if it is not, then if you contact your local smart centre, and give them details of your car, and i think the serial number off the head unit, they can order you the new code from Grundig, although they may well charge you a small fee for this service.

I hope this helps a little

Thanks for the help. Have now got the radio sorted. Any idea how to access teh central locking solenoid?

PS: Another thing I forgot. The second key which came with teh car is haywire. It makes the lights flash and the locking goes on and off constantly. Low battery or just goosed?

Goosed. But its worth trying the battery first. They do go out of synch and need a visit to the smart dealers.

iirc its behind the right side boot panel. It may be worth taking it to your local smart centre to try and resolve the issues.

Right, update is that it was the locking mech for the filler cap that was making the racket so my father is happy enough with just disconnecting it!

Space key - been quoted 80 quid for a replacement so we'll try a new battery and take it from there.

Many thanks guys.
