Cosworth design engines are a straight 6, cosworth never actually manufactured the 6 cylinder engine, barring the first prototypes, as it says, only designed it. Anyone have solid facts about this?

I posted your ad on www.mercedes190.co.uk where I am an administrator.

The 2.6 has nothing to do with the cosworth model, It came out a year or two later, and was sold alongside the cosworth 2.3s and 2.5s.

Many love the 2.6 including that LJK setright bloke who thought it was one of the best cars ever. A nice clean one should sell easily I would imagine.

As for the concrete info on the cosworth models, it is proving hard to come across. Since under 5,000 2.5s were ever made I guess it was comparatively under-the-radar. Cosworth have internal model codes for both the 2.3 and 2.5 models, which makes you wonder about the theory that supposedly Mercedes designed the 2.5......

..come on Pento, you're just trying to justify choosing the 2.5 over the 2.3!!! Sold my baby now (the real Cosworth 2.3) to a good chap. You're a Merc man like me, you know MB bought the rights to manafacture the head in house on the 2.5 as it was mad and expensive to ship the parts about....how's your baby doing? Gone over to the dark plastic side I'm afraid - bought myself a Clio V6. Gokart, but fun. Keep up the goodwork Oracle....

Well guys, really appreciate all the info and the 'education', and it's cool to see some serious 'petrol heads' still walking. Disregarding the manufacturers bit, still want to sell the Merc!!!!!

Have you tried the regular Merc forums?

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/ind

http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/index.php?

Both have classifieds sections (well, one has a spares section but you get my drift)

Hey Tony - I'm not, honestly!

This is the head off mercedes190.co.uk member Big Ben/Cossie Connesseur's 1990 2.5-16
with Coscast casting stamp. Weird no?

It does seem to be "accepted knowledge" from the period, that Mercedes did the 2.5 and I thought so too, not that it really matters. But as we've looked into it we're wondering if that is even true or actually just what Mercedes said for PR purposes at the time? We're trying to contact Cosworth and Mercedes to get some truth but no information is forthcoming. PHer Marquis_Rex is helping me out too. Mercedes produced less than 5,000 2.5s so it would also be very expensive tooling up to produce so few cars, so maybe Cosworth did do them?

That's the cosworth projects page showing "Project WAB: Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.516 cylinder head" in 1988.

We've got a thread going on about it here http://z14.invisionfree.com/mercedes_

Mine's going well thanks, haven't tracked it yet as I still have a few things I'd like to sort out.
No shame in going to a clio v6, great car and one I could definitely imagine having! Nice choice.

garydsw - sorry for the thread hijack. There's plenty of rubbish 190s around but if you can get it to stand out as a nice one it'll hopefully sell? Try www.mercseller.com

Pento...I think you may have stumbled on the equivalent of the Davinci Code, lets hope none of the germans bump you off during your quest. Coscast can surely mean only one thing no? I mean it is probably a registered mark, I think you may be right. Quell surprise mange tout (trying out the french as I am now a Renault boy). Happy hunting.
