Depends on whether the "ballon" is the amount you have to pay after the 48months to clear the outstanding balence, or the amount you would expect Mercedes to guarantee the value of ther car at.

I've been told the SLK55 AMG will residual at 60% after 3 years . This is all guestimation

What balloon you can get is dependent on the lender and how bullish they feel about the 36/48 month value on the car. I am with Lombard and my SLK55 has a 36 month balloon of £28200 and the car lists at £54500 (not that I paid that much though). Lombard wouldn't give me that balloon figure if they didn't believe it to be a realistic figure. I don't expect it to be worth much more than that in 3 years time but of course that will depend on whether I sell privately or trade in against another car etc. Oh, Porsche finance are very cautious with their balloon figures.

Hi I HATE GATSO (well, don't we all!) Interesting choice between Boxster & SLK. I've recently switched from a Boxster S (986) to a newish SLK 350 due to recurrent mechanical probs withe 5 year old/ 37k miles Porsche. Did a fair bit of research beforehand and came to the following conclusions...

Boxster (987) is not as good value/ not as good car as SLK350. 986S is not as good as SLK 350 overall, though handling is a little better. Can't comment on new 987S as haven't driven one though I suspect it's a bit better than SLK 350, as it should be seeing as it costs around £5000 more for similar spec. The AMG55 SLK has a straight line advantage over the 987S but by all accounts the Boxster handles considerably better mainly due to the weight of the SLK's V8 near the front of such a relatively short wheelbase.

If was looking to spend around £55k I'd have a good look at a Cayman or a slightly used 911.
