Have been offered the chance to buy a 52 plate E270 CDI (latest shape) full spec - Comand, Keyless, massage seats, panoramic roof etc etc.

88K miles, full MB history

As an MBOC member I am hearing lots of stories about electrical unreliability of the early versions of this latest 'E' but I need some real world advice, from a current owner/s as to how problematic they really are, if at all.

Also how reliable are the CDI engines at higher mileages ?

Thanks in advance guys

Wow, 88,000 miles in a maximum of eight and a half months, if it was registered on 1st September. That's 350 miles a day, seven days a week

If it helps, 4-5 months ago I bought an almost exact match car (W211 270 CDi, 52 plate) with 68k for £17k.

Car has now done 10k more and not skipped a beat. Few minor "niggles" and some strange messages from the diagnostic system, but apart from that - not missed a beat and still averages 42MPG on the motorway !

Don't regret buying it at all, and hope to keep it for a couple of years.

I had some strange intermittent messages on my W210 for the first year (oil sensor defective, display defective, ASR defective) which I would get maybe once a month. Although the battery seemed fine, one day during a cold snap it failed completely without warning. Since replacing the battery, I haven't had a single message (and it's been several months now).

Dad has an '03 E240 since new. Not a single thing has gone wrong once. Great car to top it all off .

Thanks guys - sounds promising - I think I'll persue this if the price is sensible.
