Air Con in 1999 C240 sport
Discussion
I have a 1999 C Class 240 sport and the Air con is not putting out cold air when required. As far as I know the system has never been re charged even though it has always been main dealer serviced. Is this likely to need done(car has done 90k miles)and if so is it a dealer job or can it be DIY? Any help or guidance greatfully received.
Regassing is usually the first thing most people do as it's often the simplest. There are many other potential failure points though, so it's probably worth getting an expert to look at it. My '97 E320 now with 105K still has ice cold a/c on the original gas. I had endless problems with a couple of Jags some years ago including compressor, condensor, evaporator, receiver/dryer and other things. I seem to remember there was a fusible link which kept failing which is designed to stop the compressor overheating. Presumably there are all sorts of sensors which could be at fault. I found this page which mentions some of this:

You could start by seeing if the compressor is doing anything.
