Cruise Switch Snapped-off !

The wife spoiled by viewing of Top Gear last night by telling me: 'Oh, and by the way, the cruise control stalk just snapped-off in my hand'.

Now whether she's forced it, or whether it was a geniune breakage, I can't be sure.
I can be sure though that it spoiled my Sunday evening.

Anyone heard of this before?
Does anyone know if its repairable?
I have a fear that a MB dealer will take my pants down to fix it !

Not repairable I'm afraid.

Has yours got the speed limiter built in to it? If so, then that stalk is slightly dearer than the one without.

Its about an hours labour to fit and replace, steering wheel off, horn out, multi function stalk out, then the cruise control stalk.

You could DIY, if you are happy about removing an airbag unit yourself?

Thanks for the swift response.

No speed limiter, just standard cruise.
I'm certainly not up to DIY, but had hoped my local garage might want to have a go without resorting to MB rip-off hourly rates.

In the meantime I'll get back to slapping the wife !

Are you sure that she wasn't using the cruise stalk to hang her handbag on.....

Any good Merc specialist should be able to sort this for you.

Thanks for the reply, if my local 'bloke' isn't up for it, I'll take it around to Wembely, only a quick journey around the North Circular.

As for the handbag, sounds quite plausible, she is blonde.
