On the verge of getting a new CLK 280 cabriolet

Bit like the one above but in black

A couple of people have remarked that it is a womans car and not really a car for a bloke!!!!!

I was thinking of getting an SLK but that was one of the factors that made me go for the CLK.

I may be blind, but i dont remember seeing many women driving these. Then again, you dont see many of them about at all.

Did also look at the Audi A4 cab, but it is only slightly cheaper and you dont get the class of the CLK. The interior and exterior are both above the Audi.

Is the CLK Cab a blokes car or one for the ladies (in addition to the SLK). If for a woman, what else is there?

I would have gone for the SLK but after having an s-type I prefer the extra room and comfort. Sign of getting old i guess

Soft tops that are for women are:

MGF (because they dont know better)

Tigra (see above)

Hot hatch type convertibles (ie 207/307/megane etc)

Beetle

Smart roadster

For men:

Audi TT

Jaguar XK

Audi A4

Crossfire

Debatable:

Boxster

MX5

MR2

Yes I had this from people when I bought my first CLK droptop... easiest way to describe the CLK is a unisex car.. round here there's a fair mix of male to female owners although I think the softer lines of the newer model may make it more one for the ladies. The SLK seems to swing towards female drivers too but not sure it would put me off - unless it was pink. Personally I'd go for an SL or 911 if it bothered you that much but you wouldn't be disappointed with CLK/SLK irrespective.

It is a glamourous car and i do know about cars and love cars. Thats why i look through this website so much. Along with other car review sites. I have reviewed pretty much every car out there (within my price range).

Why would I not know that much about cars by picking a CLK?

When choosing a car, you cant just go for performance & handling. You have to look at the whole experience. There are many box's that the car has to tick:

Good performance
Good handling
Reliability
Value for money
Depreciation
Will it keep you hooked for a long time? (you dont want to trade in too early and lose a packet)
Comfort
Overall experience/pleasure
Some practicality
And last but by no means least, looks.

Cheers Marki

Ticks the various box's for me. Just got worried when someone said it was a womans car. Looking at it closer, I think a black car would be more for a fella, silver for the ladies.

When choosing a car, you cant just go for performance & handling. You have to look at the whole experience. There are many box's that the car has to tick:

Good performance - In 280 Version, nothing special

Good handling - Had a an '03 CLK320 Avantgarde Coupe for a few days, handling was decidely loose

Reliability - Mercs aint what they used to be and neither are the dealers, JD Power and Owners on here will confirm that

Value for money - How much is a decently spec'd CLK280...Wrong side of £40k?

Depreciation - In percentage terms over the medium to long term (3yrs plus) yes it will be pretty good, short term I'd say no, Merc dealers are now seriously price lead

Will it keep you hooked for a long time? (you dont want to trade in too early and lose a packet) See above

Comfort - Yes excellent

Overall experience/pleasure - What ever floats your boat, but most dealers do not provide a good ownership experience

Some practicality - 4 seats and a fair amount of room, cant argue with that one

And last but by no means least, looks. - As I said earlier, pretty styish

No as practical (you did mention SLK earlier) but have you considered a Z4M Roadster?

I am really after a 4 seater. Would have gone for the SLK otherwise (even if i did get called a hairdresser)

This is my first merc so i cant comment on the service from dealerships. Is it that bad?

The cost is going to be about £40k and by far the most i have ever spent on a motor (nearly double). The budget was a lot lower than this originally, but kept creeping up as i looked through the alternatives. If i was to choose something else, I think it might be the A4 cab. The only thing is that by the time you have spent the extra on a decent engine, leather etc etc, you are talking the same kind of money as the CLK.

What would be better? The A4 cab or CLK cab?

I think a quick blast in either a SLK350 or SLK55 AMG would bury that misconception for good.........
