Mercedes CL420
Discussion
I have just purchased a rather nice example of this car (1998) and have now encountered a problem with the auto lift window on the passenger side, the front window is always set at the highest position and will not drop down on open, and the rear window is alway set to the pre-closed position and will not properly seal when the door is closed.
If the door is open and I push the locking mechanism in with my finger both the windows behave as they should, and also drop down when I pull the door handle open, but when I close the door both windows stop dropping and rising again.
Anyone come across this problem before....help much appriciated.

I'm no mechanic, and not heard of this problem, but it doesn't seem like the regulator (would be expensive on a C140 - £190ish on a W124 E-Class!).
Have you taken it anywhere - ie. Merc Specialist or (dare I say) Dealer
The 420....good choice...apparently rarer than the 500, although don't know this for sure. Still pulls well, and damned comfty! A couple of years back the parents took me from Norfolk to Shropshire to look at a uni....arrived as fresh as when I got in the car
Be prepared for big fuel costs if you have a heavy right foot - its got 100 litre fuel tank, mind you
Hope you enjoy your new purchase!

If the interior light is staying on, then the door pin switch is the culprit. The other cause, failing that is that the door wiring loom has been stretched. Have a fiddle with the pin switch first, it's (hopefully) just that. I've seen one or two with keyless go and this has happened and after a few days it sorts itself out.
The door pin swith is common to the A Class, and they go for fun on them, they're £4.23.
