HELP PLEASE: SLK immobilised itself....
Discussion
Hi,
I posted this on the general gassing forum but thought I'd try here too.....
I've got a 2000 SLK and went to unlock it yesterday and the car was not responding to the plipper.
I checked the battery in the plipper and this was fine.
So I unlocked the car manually and of course the alarm went off. I followed the instructions in the owners handbook to turn the key to the second setting on the ignition but nothing happened.
The car will not unimobilise/unalarm itself.
I beleive the car battery to be ok
Any ideas ????
Many thanks

When you turn the key to the 2nd setting you need to repeatedly press the button on the fob, with the door closed. Eventually the car will lock itself and then you can unlock the doors yourself. Basically the fob needs to catch up with the rolling code of the car. If you have not used the key for a while it looses its memory. If this fails then it is a problem with the car. Where's the spare key? Good luck.
Thanks Guys
I called Mercedes Roadside assist and they came out and fixed it for free - basically they disconnected the battery then reconnected it. The night before I had parked at an airport hotel and the man said that the air traffic can interfere with the alarm system......
Really pleased with the service - my car is five years old and has no MB warranty, just a full MBSH.
I now do not need to renew my AA membership especially as this service covers Europe as well.
All the best.
