Hi Guys and Gals

Just wondering if any of you have been to Stuttgart for factory Collection as i am due to go in May.

I have been to Bremen and stopped off in Amsterdam on the way back, but the routes from Stuttgart seem far more varied and i was wondering if any of you have any experiences of routes back?

Any help greatly appreciated
Shan

There's a very detailed article about this on the Benzworld SLK R171 forum. Might be useful to you......

That was Bremen though, not Stuttgart.

Hi there

I have been to Stuttgart twice in 97 and 98, both times to pick up W210s.

It is a great experience. We flew over to Stuttgart and then drove back up through Belgium and grabbed the ferry at Zeebrugge to come over to Hull and then drove back to Edinburgh. A fine way to run in a new car!

Going to go through to Reims and stop over then back through the tunnel.

Should be a nice run back.

Anyone going to South Africa for their C Class?

If the Sunday Times is correct this means picking your C Class up in Germany is a joke.

As I understand it, most right hand drive cars are built in South Africa but the majority of cars are still built in Germany. If you do factory collection it's likely your car would be built in Germany.

From what I understand only the estate is built in Germany

Nope, RHD saloons definately built in South Africa as were the previous generation BMW 3 series.

LHD saloons will still be made in Germany but my point is that if you book factory collection for your RHD C Class it will have been made 1000s of miles away in RSA.

Does MB make this clear on collection?...I wouldn't have thought so.

You don't know for sure that a factory collection won't be manufactured as RHD in Germany. The RHD sport coupe is manufactured in Sindelfingen and most if not all of the RHD specific parts are therefore definitely available. There is no issue with building a RHD car on the same line, since there are systems in place to deliver the correct parts for a particular car to the line as it passes.

Hi Guys

Just came back from Stuttgart this afternoon.

There were C Class Saloon's there being collected as well as an SL a couple of M Class and a whole host of E-Class.

The guide informed me that you can collect any model from any Collection Centre for a cost of course.

There were quite a few American's there who were collecting their cars to drive them to the port to then be transported to the USA and then wait for 4-6 weeks.

As for the collection experience i cannot praise it enough.

So you have to pay to collect your car from a factory where the car wasn't made?

Don't make sense to me.

What makes you think you have to pay anyway? Personal collection is free and includes a hotel, business class flight, taxi transfers, 5 days insurance with temporary plates, and the Eurotunnel ticket.

Just going by what 2 5Han said......if it includes all you say then great...but still not where the car was made I don't think.

Ok sorry for the misunderstanding.....

Yes Personal collection is free of charge and for the S and SL Class you get business class flights, driver to collect you from the airport, two nights accommodation in a choice of nice hotels, driver to the factory and then your choice of Eurotunnel or Ferry back. The extra cost i was referring to was if you would like your car taken to a factory that it was not built in.
Obviously this would not apply for the ML or GL as they are USA built. However cars that are built in Germany incur and extra cost if you want to collect them from a different collection point.

Unfortunately although the Museum had just opened this weekend it was closed on the Monday, not sure if that is a regular thing or just our luck??
