Never thought I'd find myself on the MB forum!

Anyway, I bought a 1995 C280 at the weekend, dunno quite why but it seemed like a good deal. Bought it from a friend/client of mine with one previous owner, 64K miles, full MB service history. Leather, electric heated seats, cruise, digital climate control, power-fold morrors, Alpine 6CD auto-changer etc., etc.

Drove it from Skibo (50 miles north of Inverness) to Hertfordshire, 620 miles, no problems, apart from the snow

Car drove like a dream, very, very relaxing, not a single rattle, squeak or problem and very very solid......

However, I don't have a huge experience of MB apart from borrowing a G Wagon, ML430, and an E55AMG a fair bit.

My concern is, where has all the power gone? Its a 2.8 straight 6, with (I think 180ish bhp) it has no performance what so ever. The throttle seems to need to be burried in the carpet to do anything. The handling is crap. Am I missing something, or, is it a case of: "They are all like that, Sir"

I've never drive a W202 C-Class myself, so can't really comment on the handling, but if its anything like a standard sprung 190-Class, it would probably feel a little wobbly. However, it should still stick to the road well enough for normal driving.
As for the need to bury the accelerator, Mercs of this era are such that they have a fair bit of travel in the accelerator before much happens (as with my W124 E320). You soon get used to this. Being a 1995 C280 it should have the manual over-ride for the auto gearbox. When you get used to this, its fantastic!!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your Merc, and welcome to the Mercedes Forum
