Guys,

A client of ours has a V reg S500 that we have looked after for quite a while. The owner has recently received an invitation for his driving license to spend 6 months with the DVLC. So while he is waiting, our client has decided to sell the S500.
Here is the dilema. We were supposed to go there this morning and detail it ready for it go go up for sale. We tried to open the doors but the battery was dead so no go.
The owner broke out the 'master key' from the fob and tried that. That even failed. The key went into the door locks and boot lock but didnt unlock.

We have now left it to the owner to contact the dealer. We did offer to use our battery jump pack but it was declined as it has just returned from a service last week.

Anyone got any clues as to why the locks wouldnt work with the key? Surely the battery going down wouldnt secure the whole car?

Presumably, it's just the wrong key, for some reason. The annoyance with using the key to open the door, if for example the remote battery is flat, is that it doesn't disable the alarm (on my E anyway). If the 12V battery is dead that shouldn't matter though.

You need to get at the battery in the boot. The boot lock is an absolute bugger to work, you have to push up and twist it at the same time. If you get it open, make sure you jump it with a good quality booster pack, not another car as the dash cluster can easily be damaged by a sudden 'spike'.

Thanks guys. Got it sorted with a can of WD40. Due to the locks not getting much use thanks to keyless entry they were a bit gummed up. Also the key which slides out of the fob is very thin and you can't get much grip to turn it in the boot lock. Got it sorted now and on charge.

My client has said he wants £21,000 for it. I think its a bit steep. Any other views?

S500 V plate. 80,000 miles FSH bodywork perfect except for a scuff to drivers rear door (looks like shopping trolley stuff). Light tan interior.
