Just purchased a Merc 190e 2.5 16v F.Y.I
Discussion
I posted a question a few weeks back about the values on a 190 2.5 16v I was considering buying. Anyway, I took the plunge and am now the proud owner of a low mileage (98k) Almadine red manual car which is in excellent original condition throughout with FMBSH.
First driving impressions were the usual Merc refinement i.e. rattle free and amazingly comfortable ride for a sports saloon. Once I got her home and dropped off the family I managed to take her out for the first 'proper drive' on my favorite roads. A few twisty miles and lots of giggles later I returned home, safe in the knowledge that I have managed to find one of the sweetest handling, predicatable fast saloon cars available to man. The fact that this car can easily go from a sedate 190 saloon into a rather special demon road car simply depending on what mood I am in is very satisfying and all this from a car which is still as it left the factory! Only minor critisism is that a quick 1st to second gear change is difficult/impossible and that although the exhaust note is fantastic, it could probably benifit from a decent aftermarket rear box. I am not a boy racer but I think if you've got an exhaust note worth hearing, you may aswell be able to hear it properly. Any suggestions for a suitable rear box which will enhance the sound without giving the car too much of a 'Carlos Fandango' image ? I also need to fit a CAT 1 alarm, any preferred makes/models to go for?

Fair point well made. I could live with the exhaust as it is, but I do need to fit an alarm for insurance purposes. I'm trying to remember the make of alarms used by MBUK back in the late 80's. I think it was Scorpion or something similar. Anyone know for sure? Obviously I will be having a new one installed but would at least keep things looking right.

Oh and.. nice car! Let's see pictures. Red ones are rare. There are a few recent new owners with 16v's here on pistonheads.
