I have been thinking about picking up an A-Class of about 2000 vintage for the other half. Parkers seems to have a big questionmark in the reliability column so I need to hear from any owners past or present whether they are worth buying. Reliability is a key requirement for me since she will soon be starting a new job with a long(ish) commute and I don't want to have to worry about breakdowns.

Thanks for any advice.

Ask if the rear radius arms have been changed, suspension was a real problem with these and modified rear arms were required. Also ask if it's had a new starter motor, these were a bit dicky and with it having a 'sandwich' engine, it's engine out unless you really know what you're doing.

The wife has a year 2002 A160, now has 25k miles. The only problem has been an electric window motor failure. She has a 1999 car before that and that had no probs atall.

Wife has a A160LWB, 30K miles, bought from new in 2001. No problems at all. I hate it, she loves it.
