Help with info on MERCEDES W5A580 AUTO GEARBOX Please?
Discussion
Hi There,
Can anybody help please with some dimensional information on the Mercedes W5A580 5 speed automatic gearbox as fitted to 1996 onwards V8 Mercs.
Been trying to find the following dimensions;
1.The depth or height of the gearbox measured from the centre (centre line) of the input shaft (which the torque converter locates onto) to the bottom of the sump?
2.Gearbox overall length?
3.Width of gearbox casing measured from the top i.e. looking over the
gearbox (plan view)
4.Width of the sump pan?
5.Total weight of gearbox including torque converter?
I'd be grateful if anybody can help
Thanks
James

Thanks for the weight info,
It's to replace the ZF4HP24 autobox that i'm current running in my Rover SD1 VDP EFI, i'm planning on supercharging the 5.2 V8 and the only suitable 5 speed auto upgrade is to the Merc W5A580 unit, read somewhere that it can handle upto 469 LB/FT of torque making it a perfect choice, over the rather heavier and less efficient ZF5HP24 which actally has a lower torque rating than the current autobox i'm using.
The critical dimension needed is the gearbox depth as ground clearance of my SD1 is only about 3.5 inches.
If you come across the depth dimension, give us shout
Thanks
James
