Chaps,

My SLK55 is ready to go. My dilemna is do I wait 5 weeks and take it on an 06 plate or do I just take it now. It's driving me mad. I have just sold my CSL and I don't have a car at the moment. That's not a major issue as I have use of my wifes car at the weekend and I work with my brother so he brings me in his car.

My head is telling me wait for the 06 it will help come resale time but my heart is telling me I want it NOW!!!!

Help!!!!

If you are going to really drive the car in February and keep it for 5 years, ragging the ar$e off it, collect it this evening. If you are going to keep it 12 months, wait until march 1 for the 06 plate.

Well, I always tell myself that I will keep my cars for well over a year but I kept my M3 for 18 months and my CSL for only 5 months

It is nice to have an 06 plate on 1st March as well as people always notice.

But then I could be driving it now!!!! Decisions, decisions.

Lord Russe has it.

What a superb car, btw.

Run it for a year or two then tell Kleeman you want it airbourne.

Personally I wouldn't be bothered by the physical plate or numpties going "Ooooooh, it's a new one". I'd be more concerned with getting a higher trade in further down the road, due to the 06 plate. This of course being very relevent if selling on in 6 months time, but making hardly any difference if selling in 6 years.

Come resale time I wouldn't sell it privately as I don't plan on keeping it 5 years. I would trade it in and would a Feb 2006 car against a March 2006 car really effect the book value in a noticeable way? Thats the biq question really?

If you'll forgive the chunnerings of a shrub dwelling trowel wielder, that's all very well but quite a minor consideration next to the very raison d'etre of the car itself, namely, Wagnerian Celt drubbing with hint of V05.

Sorry.

What a vision.

Hooning along in the style of a hairdresser, annoying the peasants, with Wagner belting out the stereo.

It's a SLK55. If you get it now, you get a 55 plate.

I picked up my 55 on Tuesday, I'd rather be driving the damn thing than just sitting waiting for a number plate change. Pull yourself together and tell the dealer you want it yesterday!

And like Steve says, a 55 plate on a 55 is cooler than an 06 anyway!

I can't get a decent 55 plate with any of my initials as they have all gone or they are silly money. If I do get a 55 plate it will just be random numbers and letters.

Of course I would prefer to be driving it, but there is something in the back of my head telling me that waiting 5 weeks isn't going to kill me.

No doubt 5 weeks won't kill you, but you asked for opinions, and mine is that what's written on your number plate makes sod all difference to how good your car is, and in financial terms it ain't going to mean more than a few hundred notes at the other end, maybe not even that if your buyer is right.

I know what I would do (because I already did it!)
