What's AMG about the CLK 430 AMG

Wondering what the difference is between a standard 430 and the 430 AMG ?

I was told it was just the body kit and AMG alloys, but have since been told that the differences apply to the breaks (vented), suspension and engine. Not sure and would really like a definitive answer.

I had my brakes done the other day and was told that I had vented discs and the standard 430 didn't ???

Think you'll find they all vented.

AMG's I think have the cooling holes across the Disc's.

I'll check Monday at work to be sure.

I was selling MB's from 1996 until last year and never came across a 430 AMG. It is just a bodykitted car as stated, MB always upped the brakes on the big engines. AMG did do special orders but they would have upped the engine to 5 litres plus. The only 430 they did as far as I remember was the C43. Oh, another clue - they always knocked the last digit off. C36, C43, C55, E55, etc.
Don't be too hard on yourself though- you've still got 286bhp to play with.

I always thought that was the case, but then after two seperate mechanics start telling you different, you start to doubt. Still a cracking car with heaps of torque.

There wasn't such a car, CLK55 AMG certainly, but it just sounds like a CLK430 with an AMG kit on it. In the back of your service book is a blue and white printout from the factory, it should have sales code '772' on there, this means the car was ordered with the AMG kit on it.
