Hi All, Have a recently aquired 98 E-class which i need to get in for an 80K service but can't bring myself to pay Main Dealer prices! any recommendations?

Also knocking noise which appears to be coming from n/side front suspension when driving over potholes and bumps in the road etc. I have had the front anti roll bar bushes replaced but noise persists - any suggestions as to what else it might be and the likely cost of getting it sorted?

Finally the sunroof doesn't open or tilt - motor makes a wirring noise but nothing happens! easy to fix or best left as is - fortunatley I have climate!

regards

The knocking will be the drop link off the end of the anti-roll bar - £10 each

The sunroof will need two new cables - £24 each

Both are pretty common 'characteristics', and any good Mercedes spanner man will have done these a million times.

Mine had the same thing, but from coming both sides - I was told it's a common problem with mileage. It was sorted by the local dealer at a cost of £300 which included "link rod for stabilizer bar, replace; joint on lower left steering knuckle replace; joint on lower right steering knuckle replace". The parts were only about £75 and the rest was labour. As well as the two joints, the parts list includes two arms. It transformed the steering, and removed the clunking noises over bumps.

If it's a V8 or diesel, which have more weight up front, it's worth bearing in mind there's a problem cropping up with that model E-class's suspension spring holder bit (sorry bad explanation) coming detached from the body !

That is not good so perhaps worth getting a good mechanic to fully poke around and check everything out.

My family's garage will happily do it and at good rates, we do quite a lot of W210's, but we're probably too far North being in Gloucestershire.

good luck,

Russell
