So I bought a used CLA 3 weeks ago from a main dealer. I thought the rusty brakes would rub off but oh no! This is on the brake part of the hub and because of the rather lovely alloy wheels the RUST shines through and I see it every day now. The Mercedes dealer says “it happens” - “you could hammerite and/or paint them” - the g wagon in the showroom is the same BTW! Like that was meant to help.
So why manufacture a part that is known to rust? Mercedes head office says it’s not a warranty issue and Mercedes used car 165 point check does not include RUST on brake parts so there is no recourse to the dealer.
Any ideas to help me make the car look good and not a 1 year old RUSTY Mercedes?

You'd probably need to post pictures to let us critique the situation then tell you the correct course of action would be a set of 6 pot AP calipers with 370mm ceramic discs with anodised bells. That's what most PH types run on their station cars.

Looks pretty normal, have a look at JLR discs after 12 months; the carriers rust up so the pads don’t make proper contact with the discs and they end up with rusty rings around them. It’s just normal cheapo car parts where the manufacturer has saved money.

Only saw this on a new car on the MG4 X Power.
Never seen it on anything else.

So do you think a better replacement - brembo etc - not rust and look so awful?

A lot of places will just spray them with some high temp paint to tidy them up - it’s a very easy job. The Brembos you buy from Eurocarparts are cheap and nasty these days and made in China.

Thanks - I asked a wheel specialist in Berkshire and he didn’t want the job. I’ll ask around
