Cracking car, does everything you want it to very well, just hasn"t got that "wow" factor for me though.
Brilliant all round motor.

Its a great car. Lost of toys. Very fast. Quite nimble (especially for a tricked out full size saloon).

The only negative is for the money, its hard to distinguish from the standard E's.

Yep, that's where I am too - I have a CLK and think that's a nice shape!

Tricked out, you're not kidding, this thing had the lot - the auto bolstering seats were amazing - change direction just slightly and the opposite side bolster pumps up to hold you in position!!!

Re your negative, agree but that's exactly what some people want (invisibility) - I saw one that was bebadged for that reason.

Still not convinced though - how does it compare to the BMW M5 I wonder?

I've just sold the Corvette Z06 and am probably going to buy something American but have been lured by the CL55 as a rather striking example of the breed.

I've never been into Mercedes' but their latest crop seem to have it spot-on in the styling department. Being used to reliable American V8's with loads of power and cheap running costs, I wondered what these CL's are like in terms of reliability and running and servicing costs.

I'm also quite interested in the AMG version but know absolutely nothing about these cars as they've never really interested me until now. I'm not really interested in any other of the Mercedes cars so I'm not looking for alternative recommendations, it's this model or nothing.

Thanks.

CL55 - a superb car and a nice shape (IMHO) and if you buy one a few years old with all of the toys a great bargain (£35K). Its a large car which is what you want. Regarding servicing, obviously a full main dealer service history (at least during the warranty period) is a must. When purchased I'd take it to one of the many secondary Merc servicing shops (as I do with my CLK) for work at half the main dealer cost. Good luck!

I've had my E55 for about a year now - great car in that it has everything - performance and comfort and I can transport the family easily. A few things to watch - the computer memories get full and the car can try to drive itself (accelerating when you're braking etc) but I think this is only if you have Distronic fitted. Also had issues with the computer that controls the keyless entry and the auto shutting of the boot. I think that I'm still missing my 911 Convertible that I had to sell when the family came along! It's a great car but doesn't have a huge amount of passion about it.

Hi Tony! Small world! I'm setting up a new business next year, so the plan is to sell mine, buy a Ginetta (yawn!) but it televised for advertising purposes and cheap, but am planning a few races in Britsports next year in Class 1. A friend of mine has just bought a Juno, so you'll probably see me in that a few times. I am planning to be at Snetterton as long as my car hasn't sold by then (secretly I hope it hasn't sold!) Hopefully see you there. Also am looking at importing a car from the US which I have the rights to distribute - lovely car, carbon fibre, same power as a Juno lighter and cheaper, so I'm hoping by the end of the season to have one of those out as well. I'll pop over and introduce myself if you're at Snett.

Thanks Jonathan - am looking at one still under warranty so would hope to iron out any elecronic faults a.s.a.p. no charge.

How did you find the fuel consumption overall?

Jon, was hoping to be at snett but I am having a supercharger fitted for next season and the guy doing the work has my car at the moment and will need it for the next 5-6 weeks to fit all the additional pipework etc so snetterton is a no go im afraid but I may pop down to watch ( that will be hard! )

True, for those that want discretion it is an advantage. But its the one of the few complaints I hear about the E55.

Funny you mention the M5. Because the other one would be its not as lively (putting this tactfully considering I'm on the MB board) as the M5 to drive.

Right, but I can't get a new shape M5 for the price of a 1-2 year old E55!

Out of interest, which board are you on - Daimler Chrysler, MB UK or a dealership?

BTW, how are you finding the second hand market for E55's?

Book values can be alot different to what people are really getting at this time of the year (slow market). Atleast for private sales.
