Just replaced the oil cooler on my 2006 mercedes 320 cdi with the om642 v6 3.0 diesel engine.I replaced the oil cooler seals which is in the bowels of hell deep down in the 'V' of the engine.
Started the car up and idled it for 30 minutes,no oil leaks no water leaks, waahaay i thought.I think i've made a booboo though,i replaced the cooler with an aftermarket one(3 projects on the go,long story moneywise)and after a little while i saw a minute little silver intermittent 'sparkle/bubble' at the edge of the oil cooler with my inspection camera and it turned out the paint on the cooler was MELTING!!!
Initially i thought the oil cooler was leaking so i re-torqued it but nothing changed.
There is a faint light, see through white steam/smoke starts coming up from around the oil cooler after 10 minutes idling, will it still be this paint melting??
Anyone had a similar experience??I have cardboard under the car and it's leaking nothing!!
