So this morning I thought I’d start looking for a low price budget example to plop about in and not have to worry too much about it.

Before long I quickly ended up looking at GT S and now facelift 577 BHP jobbies

I don’t know much about these I’m afraid but should I be satisfied with the straight GT?

I think there's a YT video by Scottish Car Clan with a buyer's guide for the mk1. From memory, the options that you'd want on a GT are standard on a GTS so the S is the one to go for.

The GTR is the one to go for....I drove one on track and was totally blown over...was over 3s a lap quicker around oulton park than my 2014 Audi R8 V10+...

I’m sure, but I don’t want to spend that.

I have an SLS for faster days. Just need a daily

The biggest problem I have with these cars is the sheer length of the bonnet. Visibility when trying to pull out of a junction or navigate a mini-roundabout is very limited indeed. But leaving that aside, they look decent value at the moment.

That's a positive for me, proper old-school feel. For normal daily road use I think the 'basic' GT is fine.

Long bonnet really isn’t a problem.

It’s the right hand side wing mirror. It’s in exactly the wrong place so it blocks your view of traffic already on a roundabout. You need to do this weird meerkat look over the mirror !

Gearbox also takes a long time to get up to temp, maybe 15 mins of driving on cold mornings.

But can live with it for the wonderful noise and presence these cars have.

From memory the GT doesn’t have race mode and the LSD is different, also has different, brake discs over the GTS.

Am sure google will tell you more but there was a driveshaft recall on earlier models, would be good to know that was done on any car you are looking at if it is a low miles example.

These really have entered the realm of the possible. I am very tempted, I love the look, the long bonnet the retractable spoiler....

I am super tempted. In my research the thing that keeps on coming up, oddly, is the cost of replacing the ceramic brakes, which seems to run to a couple of K.

I think these are going to age along the lines of the pogoda, not quite as well as a the gullwing (which the sls seems to be tracking).

If only the US tech stocks would recover I could happily take a pop.

Thanks chaps.
Which model years did the driveshaft issue affect?

The standard non-S appears to have the mechanical diff, rather than the electronic device fitted to the S.

There seems to be a bit of an issue with some of the cars fitted with e-diff, according to the internet.

Driveshaft bonding issue was back in 2018 ish from memory and subject to a recall so shouldn't be an issue now.

I drive a GTS Edition 1, main additions are fixed rear wing, carbon roof and front spoiler. quite rare so may be worth looking out for if you're going for an early car.

Faultless in the 8 years I've had it, such a great noise, you get used to the long bonnet and the door mirror.

Likely I’d go for an early GTS.
Personally not keen on grey, black not ideal but depends what comes up

I know it’s not the model you’ve mentioned but I’ve had a GTC roadster for a while now and it’s a great car! Been spot and great fun including a euro trip too, if you buy a good one I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Yes, a serious piece of kit IMO.

If you're looking at an early GT then go for a GTS with premium pack.
The GTS got you race mode, electronic LSD, and adaptive exhaust. Also has more power at 503 vs 460 odd. The premium pack gave you in addition a panoramic roof, burmester stereo, keyless, park assist camera and dual zone climate - you'll be hard pressed to find an S without this TBH.
The driveshaft and gearbox issues affected primarily 16-16 models - check if they've been done. Driveshaft was a recall.

The GTC is IMHO the pick of the bunch, best bits of the R but without the really harsh track focussed ride. However, the GT & GTS are both still awesome cars and fantastic value right now.
