S500 W222182 SRS error
Discussion
Hi
I’ve got a W222182 S500 which has an error saying drivers front seatbelt. I bought it as a Cat S write off, front end minor damage so assumed it was related.
Plugged in iCarSoft MB V3.0 and it came up with:
Driver Emergency Tensioner Retractor Squib = 255Ohm
This makes sense for a car with a front end impact, albeit quite minor. So I took all the panels off, and measured the continuity on the yellow connector, with two wires coming off. Complete circuit. Interestingly, somebody previously had spliced a 5ohm resistor between the wires. Which now makes me think it’s an electrical gremlin from pre-accident.
Just to be sure, I bought a replacement tensioner (second hand) and tried this. Still no luck. I don’t believe there is actually a fault with the tensioner unit.
Checked continuity etc. on the belt buckle too. All seems ok. Checked that the switch in the buckle works on iCarSoft too, all ok.
I can see that the drivers door card has also been taken off in the past. The seat base seat heater also doesn’t work, it comes on for 4-5 seconds and goes off. Could have been damaged whilst the previous person was looking, could be coincidence.
On the iCarSoft - which is new to me - I had a play around with the settings for the front right SAM, fired relays etc. which it would let you do and all worked.
I tried to normalize the seats, but on iCarSoft it only brings up two seats, doesn’t tell you which they are it just has two options both showing “Normalize Seat”… but it would run the normalize process for the OSR, then the second one it failed sometimes due to communication error and sometimes due to circuit 30G being turned off. I tried with ignition on, engine on, seatbelt buckled and unbuckled but no luck. I only tried all of this as I saw a video on YouTube that seat normalisation can be a cause for error lights for SRS. Also, the easy entry function on my car is disabled and you can’t enable it, when you switch it on it turns straight back off.
Can anyone point me in a direction to carry on fault finding, the fact the seatbelt tensioner is showing as 255Ohm (maximum) when there is continuity suggests to me it could be a wiring or module fault. But I don’t have any manuals etc. to know which ones to start looking at, and on an S class there is obviously loads!!
Thanks
