SL350 - Key programming?

I have a 2002 SL which belonged to my late father and came with a spare metal key which doesn't appear to work (two other plastic keys do work fine) I am keen to utilise the metal key as its far nicer was wondering if anyone knew if this could be programmed to work alongside the others?
