I have my heart set on getting into a V8.

Today I went to look at a W204 6.2 because I figured I could get the V8 sound at a lot less cost than a 205. The one I looked at was in great condition, enthusiast owner and obviously cared for but we went out for a drive and TBH whilst it sounded epic on start up it just didn't feel that fast nor did it feel particularly loud when cruising. I suspect this is the very linear power delivery not giving me the turbo thump I'm used to (previous rides: Imprezas, S3, Golf R etc)

Anyone else find this and went for a Bi Turbo?

I had the CLK and found the same. It was very fast, but not particularly exciting with it.

It’s all down to the power delivery of the engine and personal preference. Personally I prefer a long rev range of a N/A engine, rather than the shorter more violent rev of a turbo… Engine noise can be a lot more antisocial if you want, personally I prefer the less shouty version but the sport button changes things.

Yes, I thought exactly the same when I tried a PP car. It sounded fab on start up but the drive was very drama-free. In hindsight I wonder whether a bit more time in it, and familiarity with the gearbox in particular, might have helped.

I did however drive a Comp Pack E92 M3 later in the day and thought it was much more exciting, despite being down on power and torque against the C63.

Of all the V8s I've owned, I have quite a soft spot for the Audi 4.2. I had a de-coked S5 with a manual box which is picked up for less than £6k. It had its shortcomings but it was quite a lot of car for the money.

When you push a 204, there is no way you can say it's void of drama.

It's a characteristic, well refined Merc in a sense, very good cabin deadening, and no artificial nonsense coming through the speakers. Doesn't try too hard to make it's noise, but you know it's there on tap.

Windows down/roof open.. pushing it.. there's nothing else like it.

Mine is remapped, with the extra power at the end of rev range, so I'm not sure how a stock would be, but the power just never stops building.

Driving involvement though, that's another topic.

I understand what the op says.
there is turbo power and na power. Explosive vs smooth
the acceleration of the c63 6.2 is quite impressive and it certainly pulls like a train especially above 5000. however it seems much slower than the numbers on the speedometer. you certainly feel the acceleration but from the driver's position you don't feel that much "shove in the seat". At the time I had a twin-turbo car with less power and I would say it seemed punchier and faster than the C63 during the boost phase. however the noise, the instant jerk of the throttle response, the large rev range are very special. It's a matter of preference I think. an impreza tuned will push more will seem faster but is it better for all that?
