mercedes c-class kompressor parts

i'm a new member to this forum or any forum, so i'm a little unsure how all this works.
i have a mercedes c-class 200 avantgarde kompressor. absolutely love it, the drive, the feel, the engine, its been great to drive. but a few weeks ago i could hear a very slight noise, which i didn't know where it was coming from. as time went on the noise slightly got worse. took it to an ex-mercedes machanic who didn't have much time to look at it but straight away said it was the kompressor on it, said it was going and not sure of the extent of possible damage or repair needs. rang mercedes dealer and they said a new part costs around 1'162 and then labour on top. they said they havn't had to replace one as yet, not come accross it before but then no guarantee with any machinary, just bad luck it happened to mine.

just really want to know if anyone out there has had a similiar problem with the same make/model? or know of independent mercedes mechanic who won't charge the earth to have a good look at it.

i'm thinking of selling the car and getting something new rather than spending all that money on a repair.

any ideas, experiences welcome.

If it really is an unusual fault, and the car has a full Mercedes-Benz service history, then they might consider paying some of the cost of repair as a goodwill gesture even if it is out of warranty.

oh right so what do i do, just simply go to a mercedes dealer and mention it.

Well, they will need to establish what the actual fault is and quote for the work before you start phoning Mercedes-Benz customer services. They might say no, of course, but it's worth a go.
