My 2010 car has developed a nasty habit of applying the brakes itself during low speed urban maneuver. This does not happen every day - maybe just once a week. The yellow warning triangle appears on the dash, along with the brake sign. The info panel then says that ABS and EPS are inoperative. If I apply the brake pedal strongly, and then release it, it is possible to drive on. But this may take a couple of tries with irate drivers all around. Of course, since the problem then clears itself, there are no fault codes showing.

Thank you for any pointers that you may have. New pads and discs were fitted all round 5000 miles ago. Total miles is 70,000.

I had this on my 2006 ML and it was the speed sensor on the right rear wheel. It sensed slip as the sensor was damaged and braking that individual wheel.

We've just bought a 2011 ML & it had all 4 wheel speed sensors changed before we picked it up - ironically it was going in to a specialist for a boot lock which the dealer was sorting before we had it & it threw up an ABS warning light. The non OEM parts didn't work that the dealer tried so they had to go with MB supplied parts & to use the Star diagnostic to clear the codes via the specialist.

OP, have you had the safety recall done BTW for the brake booster? Ours went in today and after testing it they confirmed it did need a replacement booster. The drivers airbag replacement was delayed as the airbags are still on back order.

Certainly sounds like a faulty abs sensor. When one is failing on my 2010 GL (done 3 out of 4 so far) pulling away especially cornering at low speed results in the car grabbing brakes until it eventually realises there's a fault and inactivates the abs and esp then all is fine till you turn off and on again.
