I am luck enough to own a lovely old W124 E36.

Sadly, it let me down on Sunday when the N/S/R brake caliper jammed on. Undriveable. We were at SiL for Sunday lunch so car is safe to sit there on her drive.

RAC couldn't fix it, so we arranged for an RAC approved spanner-man to come out and replace both rear disks and pads and one caliper.

Just had a call from garage to say they can't do the job as it will take 4 hours.

What does the team think? 4 hours seems a long time for a fairly simple job. I mean, I've watched Edd China do this in no time at all!

Situation is now sorted but just interested to hear your thoughts.

If the brake pipes are corroded and won’t undo then the job can easily escalate from a simple disc, caliper and pad replacement. Even if the brake pipes appear to be corroded then the garage may want to open that can of worms and get into brake pipe replacement.
