Hi, I have done 6,000 miles and love my car but it has always had a really tappety engine noise at idle. I have seen loads of videos online with similar noise, is this normal for the cars?

No specific knowledge on this engine, but modern high pressure injection systems make a lot of noise. You are likely hearing that above any other noises.

I would agree with the above, modern direct injection petrol engines can be quite noisy at idle, and they do sound tappety.

Yep this is what was happening with my SLK55. I had some work done at a Specialist so asked him about it. He checked the car out and concluded it was the injectors. Advised me to use a better fuel but I was already using ESSO superunleaded.

Thinking back, it was about then when the noise got worse. It's just that it's my local garage since I've moved and got fed up with Shell V Power premium pricing.

I previously only used Tesco Momentum or Shell V Power. The noise has quietened down somewhat since switching back to Shell V Power. Strange that the injectors are so sensitive to this.
