Hi all,

First post here, was hoping for some advice regarding a bad experience I had with a Mercedes dealership. Last year, I bough a blue coupe, c250d from a dealership, 2nd hand. After about 6 months the brakes make the most annoying squeaking/screeching sound. I took it to a Mercedes garage who told me that the problem was non-oem brake pads.

I really am not an expert, but I went back to the dealers and even asked other dealers. Pretty much everyone told me that they shouldn't have done that. After going through the levels at the dealership they basically told me they can do what they want and they can't check all the parts to make sure they are mercedes genuine, despite selling it as such.

I have tried to contact actual head office who are basically not interested either. Was really hoping for some insight here as to whether I should just take the hit and replace it myself or if anyone thinks its worth kicking up a stink.

Replies greatly appreciated.

How old is the car, mileage? Presumably purchased from a franchised MB dealer as an 'Approved Used', rather than a specialist?

Basically, you're on a hiding to nothing. Brakes are wear and tear items and the non-OEM pads were likely fitted by the previous owner, and wouldn't have been fitted by an MB dealer. They wouldn't check the pad manufacturer as part of the pre-sale checks, just the pad and disc thickness. Just change the pads, using MB ones or a decent aftermarket brand, and the discs if worn.

I agree with Tarquin. Replace and move on.

Absolutely not worth kicking up a fuss at all, the majority of cars on the road will have aftermarket parts on, if it bothers you get it booked into MB and get some genuine pads fitted yourself imo

If they’re making a racket they’ve more than likely got contaminated or filthy etc over winter. Hardly the fault of the pad.
