2004 CLK ESP malfunction
Discussion
Hi guys,
I have just taking owner of my dad’s 2004 CLK after his passing.
It’s due it’s MOT on Sunday and it’s booked in on Saturday. However I took it for a spin today, and the error message came up saying ESP defective visit workshop. The orange triangle isn’t on on the dash board unless I press the esp off button.
I have tried recalibrating the steering wheel with no luck.
I’m trying to work out myself what could have caused the issue? It drives fine and starts with no issues.
The battery was flat when I got it out of my dad’s garage, so flat I couldn’t even open unlock the the car with the fob. I had to jump the car from a spare battery. However it’s started every time since.
Is this a fail on an MOT and is there anything else anyone can suggest getting this sorted before I take it to the garage.
Thanks in advance.

Would suggest that is your issue. Get it on a C-Tek to see if the battery can be brought back to a reasonable state. If not then replaceThe battery was flat when I got it out of my dad’s garage, so flat I couldn’t even open unlock the the car with the fob.
Mercs are quite susceptible to battery issues and chuck up errors unrelated to the actual issue (normally the battery)
I’m sure this is normal after a flat battery if memory serves.
Try turning the steering full lock to lock.
