Thinking about a cls63 shooting brake 2012 first edition, done about 67000 miles full MB service history. What experience do people have with these ?

I can't speak for the 63 version but I've a 2014 350 CDI Shooting Brake and overall in the 2 years/ 30k miles it's been a good car. Outside of normal servicing I've had a couple of minor oil leaks fixed at the service I had done, changed all the disks/pads, had an A/C switch replaced and I am currently waiting for the self levelling rear suspension pump to be fixed (it is a common problem on the E/CLS models apparently). My car had a quiet life for 3 years before I bought it and I think a lack of use probably didn't help in some ways but I zoom fixed that with 500 miles a week in it initially.

You should try & buy one with full main dealer/specialist history and a recent set of decent tyres and brakes. Also test the suspension if it is the full Airmatic system.

The other thing to look for is that the wheels seem very prone to getting flat spots/cracking (mine is still on the OEM 19s with 285 rear tyres I think) but had previously had one rear wheel fixed and I've a flat spot to get fixed when the wheels are refurbished over the winter (I have a set of winters now for it as well).

Would I have another one?....yes, it's a smart, comfortable estate and is a rare car on the roads.

I've got one, same age as the one you are looking at.
There's little to dislike. I'm not a huge fan of the gearbox but I tend not to like smg/dsg style things. The old 5 speed torque tube auto in the e55 was much smoother at low speeds but far more dim at higher speeds.
It goes well, is huge, I don't notice much loss of boot space over the e class because of it's shape. Kids are happy in the back and if you need to overtake you just can. Brakes are quite expensive.
They are a rare sight in any guise but especially in 63. I'd expect to pay towards 24 from a dealer and closer to 21/22 privately now.

Had a 2013 3.0 diesel from nearly new, 500 miles to 140,000.

one issue of air sensor, £300 second hand spares fix. That's pretty good.

Brakes on a 63 will be loads more than others but you already know that. Budget for about £3,500 all round. For me, about £1,000 or less.

What else? no rattles, feels great after so long, you get what you pay for.

If you want something left field there's an R63 on Collecting Cars currently...admittedly an older car but a rare thing.
